Village E-governance initiative to disseminate information through LED screens
Gujarat government has launched an e-governance pilot initiative called ‘Gujarat Swarnim Gram E-Broadcast Project’ in the villages of Amreli. Under this project dubbed as “the first experiment of mass communication on village level throughout the nation”(Business Standard), the government plans to disseminate information useful to rural livelihood by erecting large LED screens in public places.
Business Standard further reports,
The LED screens in villages are expected to rapidly disseminate information relating to precautionary actions at the time of natural calamities, weather information for agricultural use, pro-village schemes of the government, 24-hour alert system, important public messages of the government, daily commodity rates, government recruitments, health related information and others.
Launching this project in Amreli district, Gujarat Chief Minister claimed that this project would disseminate relevant information in a span of 60 seconds, as reported in iGovernment. Based on the results of this project, “it will soon cover all the 18,000 villages of the state” (IBNlive)
From an article published in the official website of Gujarat government, it appears that this pilot will leverage the outcomes some of its earlier initiative, such as “Jyotigram” initiative to provide 24 hour three phase power to the villages.
